Are crypto exchanges safe? Could they rug-pull my funds? +
Crypto exchanges carry more risk than banks. Evaluate by: (1) complete Proof of Reserves (DeFiLlama tracks 91); (2) major regulatory licenses (MiCA / SEC / MAS / JFSA); (3) insurance fund (SAFU). Top exchanges (Kraken / Coinbase / Bitstamp) satisfy all three. Keep no more than 20% of assets on-exchange; move the rest to self-custody.
What can Mainland China users use in 2026? +
Mainland China users can practically use (with VPN): OKX, Bybit, Bitget, Gate, MEXC. Chinese bank cards can't deposit directly — use P2P (USDT-CNY) rails. Binance Global has KYC restrictions for Chinese users. See our 'China-friendly' review.
Are no-KYC exchanges legal? Should I use them? +
No-KYC exchanges are not inherently illegal (depends on jurisdiction), but if your country mandates KYC and you bypass it, you bear the compliance risk. Post-MiCA (2026), EEA users on compliant exchanges must complete KYC. For large funds or long-term holdings, we recommend compliant exchanges (cost: KYC hassle; benefit: recourse when things go wrong).
What does MiCA mean for EU users? Should I switch exchanges? +
After MiCA fully took effect in Dec 2024, EEA users on non-compliant exchanges (like KuCoin's partial services or early Bybit services) face gradual restrictions. Top MiCA CASP-authorized exchanges: Kraken, Coinbase, OKX, Crypto.com, Bitpanda, Bitstamp, Gemini, Bitvavo. Dutch users are especially urgent (Trends score 100) — see our MiCA migration guide.
